I mean ok I'll admit it, there are times that I am in church and I was at work the night before and was extremely exhausted. But I came to church and could barely stay awake. I know I probably should not have been at work so late or I could have went to church the following Sunday, but I wanted to go regardless of how tired I was.
The thing is, when you have adults who are sleeping in church, then you have children who see those adults sleeping so they think it is ok. As adults we are supposed to become role models for the youth, or at least that's what I thought. My mother always taught me that my younger cousins will model my behavior, good or bad. That is a very true statement, because when adults fall asleep in church what do you think the children are saying? So role models play a huge role with the youth, and we have to remember that at all times. Whether we like it or not, children and teenagers see what adults do and think that it is ok for them to do it as well.
There are many teenagers who think that it is ok to have their cell phone out while church is going on. Why would they think that it is ok if no one has told them not to do it or if they have not seen anyone do it? So my advice to whoever is reading this is to be aware of what you do at all times, because you never know who is watching you.
The youth need guidance and structure and if they do not get that then they will be lost. They will resort to doing things that they think is acceptable or will get them attention. I know that with my cousins and siblings, I have to be a role model because I want them to choose the right path. I want them to make smart choices and I want them to be able to be proud of the choices that they make.
